Immerse yourself in the pleasure of traveling across Gyeongsangbuk-do, and test your luck at Gyeongsangbuk-do’s top-100 travel destinations.

Gyeongsangbuk-do announced its plans to launch the “Gyeongsangbuk-do Top-100 Travel Destination Challenge” in collaboration with the Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture and Tourism Organization on July 15.

The Gyeongsangbuk-do Top-100 Travel Destination Challenge is a contactless travel campaign that requires the traveler to complete missions on their mobile devices. Travelers can access the dedicated website on their mobile devices in a safe and convenient manner upon visiting each of Gyeongsangbuk-do’s top-100 travel destinations.

Gyeongsangbuk-do originally launched the Challenge campaign back in 2020 to address not only the need for “untact” tourism during the pandemic, but also the recent trend of uploading selfies onto social media platforms from various travel destinations. The inaugural campaign was a huge success, attracting more than 75,000 missions completed. This year, Gyeongsangbuk-do is looking to expand the Challenge to include Daegu-si with 15 new travel destinations as part of a win-win strategy between Gyeongsangbuk-do and Daegu.

Gyeongsangbuk-do selected the top-100 travel destinations based on big data analysis, city/county recommendations, and statistics on visitors to major tourist destinations across the Province. Then, it screened the final batch of travel destinations to leave those equipped to serve the demand for contactless tourism during the pandemic.

To participate, visit the desired mission location and scan the QR code attached to the entrance of the attraction with your mobile phone, or access the mobile website (www.경북챌린지투어.com)), sign up as a member, then allow the website to access your GPS location.

The mission for each travel destination has two steps: first, you have to solve the quiz related to the travel destination, and second, you have to take and upload a selfie taken at the travel destination. If you complete both steps successfully, you get a chance to win a gifticon voucher worth between KRW 2,000 and KRW 10,000 (random selection). Gyeongsangbuk-do has lined up a variety of different Gifticon vouchers (vouchers for convenience stores, Happicon vouchers, cafe/beverage vouchers, petrol vouchers, etc.) for this year’s mission winners.

The first 1,000 people to visit three travel destinations and complete a mission will get a KRW 30,000 coupon usable on “Saiso,” an online shopping mall for agricultural delicacies and local specialties from Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Moreover, Gyeongsangbuk-do will select a total of 100 travelers who have visited more than 20 destinations and hand out prizes worth KRW 50,000 (free theme park tickets, local specialties/delicacies, quarantine kits, etc.). All related events will be held twice - once during Chuseok and once at the end of the year.

And for travelers who have completed the highest number of missions will be crowned as the “Travel King” at the end of the year. Among participants who visited the most travel destinations, Gyeongsangbuk-do will reward 1st place to 6th place with a National Tourism Gift Certificate worth up to KRW 3 million. Meanwhile, the Travel King for this year’s Challenge will be selected online (contactless event) in December.

Kim Sang-cheol, Director of Gyeongsangbuk-do’s Culture, Tourism, and Sports Bureau, said, “We have prepared a travel system that allows everyone to travel safely and sensibly while complying with COVID-19-related protocols.” He added, “We hope you can create plenty of special and fun memories at Gyeongsangbuk-do’s clean and safe travel destinations.

The Gyeongsangbuk-do Top-100 Travel Destination Challenge will continue until December 10, 2021. For more information, visit the Gyeongsangbuk-do Nadri website (https://tour.gb.go.kr) and the Gyeongsangbuk-do Top-100 Travel Destination Challenge website (https://100.letsgogb.com).
