;TABLE cellSpacing=5 cellPadding=0 width=560 border=0 class=text33> ;TBODY> ;TR> ;TD class=MCon01 style=PADDING-RIGHT: 15px; PADDING-LEFT: 15px>;IMG alt= 산자부 src=http://www.korea.net/news/image/20051103017L.jpg align=left>Commerce-Industry-Energy Minister Lee Hee-beom said on Thursday (Nov. 3) that the government will complete the construction of a nuclear waste dumpsite in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, by 2008. ;BR>;BR>After his announcement on the official designation of Gyeongju City as the site for a radioactive repository, Lee told reporters, “By minimizing preparing procedures, the government will finish the building before the end of 2008.” ;BR>;BR>But he hinted at a possibility that the completion could be delayed by several months to early 2009, saying, “It will take at least one or two years for the government to begin construction.” ;BR>;BR>Before the construction, the ministry will consult with a variety of organizations, such as the North Gyeongsang provincial government, as well as nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), he said. ;BR>;BR>Adding that the three other candidate locations should humbly accept the voting outcome, Lee stressed that the voting process, including rules on absentee ballots and the tallying of ballots, was fair. ;BR>;BR>Among the four bidding locations, Gyeongju posted the highest approval rate of 89.5 percent on Tuesday; Gunsan 84.4 percent; Yeongdeok 79.3 percent and Pohang 67.5 percent. ;BR>;BR>The MOCIE on Thursday reported the referendum outcome to the meeting of economy-related ministers held at the Prime Ministers Office and discussed necessary projects. ;BR>;BR>;/TD>;/TR>;/TBODY>;/TABLE>
