In order to maintain the spirit of the millennial kingdom, Silla in the Korean peninsula and let the world know about Gyeongsangbuk-do’s identity by shedding new light on Silla culture, which is the matrix of Korean culture, Gyeongsangbuk-do province has implemented ‘Korea Silk Road Project’.
‘Korea Silk Road Project’ provided academic and historical review of Silla culture, while establishing the study of Korean Silk Road through global network.
Gyeongsangbuk-do will sign Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) or Letter of Intent(LOI) with major provinces and cities of Silk Road countries, including Shaanxi and Gansusheng of China and Tashkent of Uzbekistan.
Gyeongsangbuk-do sends ‘Korea Silk Road Expedition’, runs a homepage for Korea Silk Road(http://ksilkroad.com) and cooperates with international organizations related to Silk Road.
On March 21, 2013, the Korea Silk Road Expedition will start its journey from Gyeongju Expo Park, pass the remains of ancient silk road including Weihai, Fa Hua Yuan, Penglai, and Ningpo of China, and arrive at Xi’an on April 4, 2013. After arrival at Xi’an, Gyeongsangbuk-do will hold Korea China Silk Road Day events including trade bazaar. We also plan to host international academic conferences on silk road in Dunhuang in July.
Gyeongsangbuk-do is also planning another expedition of past Silk Road countries that runs 14,000 km through China, Uzbekistan, Iran and Turkey starting from July. The expedition will arrive at the opening ceremony site of Istanbul-Gyeongju Wolrd Culture Expo 2013, Saint Sophia Cathedral, on August 31, 2013.
