The joint organizing committee is established to fasten the implementation of Istanbul-Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2013
On January 17, 2013, the inaugural general meeting of joint organizing committee for ‘Istanbul-Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2013’ was held at 4pm in Istanbul City Hall with high-level officials from both Turkish and Korean governments, including the Vice Ministers of Culture. The joint organizing committee consists of 22 high-level officials from central governments, local governments, governmental agencies, and professional institutes of both countries.
After the general meeting, the opening ceremony of joint secretariat for ‘Istanbul-Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2013’ was held at Ali Emiri Efendi Culture Center.
What kind of events will be held at ‘Istanbul-Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2013’?
The ‘Istanbul-Gyeongju World Culture Expo 2013’ will be held from August 31 to September 22, 2013 in the downtown of Istanbul under the theme of ‘Road, Encounter & Companion’. The organizing committee is preparing 25 specialized cultural programs to globally promote the cultural excellence of ancient Silla kingdom and Korea in 9 fields including exhibitions, perances and special events. In addition, Korean culture pavilion where you can experience Korean culture will be built.
The opening ceremony will be held in front of Saint Sophia Cathedral, the greatest building of Byzantine empire. In particular, Korea Silk Road Expedition that starts from Gyeongju in March, 2013 and travels through the past Silk Road including Xi’an, Dunhuang, Almaty, Samarkand, and Teheran, will arrive at the place of the opening ceremony in Istanbul on August 31, 2013.
The special events such as ‘K-Pop concert’ participated by Korea’s popular singers, ‘Silk Road Bazaar’ exhibiting and selling folk arts and specialized goods of 30 countries, ‘World Folk Perance Festival’ showing off traditional beauty of each country with a view to promoting harmony between the East and the West will be organized.
