On October 27, after the international seminar, UNs geographical name experts, including Brahim Atoui, visited Gyeongju and East Sea.
To promote the international standardization of the name of East Sea, for three days from October 27, the 20th International Seminar on the Geographical Name of Donghae and the Name of East Sea was held at Gyeohngju Hilton Hotel.
The seminar was jointly hosted by the Foation Donghae Research Society (chairman: Korea University Professor Park No-hyung) and Northeast Asia History Foation, and was sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Gyeongju City. Attending the seminar were 50 personnel, including African Team Head Brahim Atoui of the UN Geographical Name Expert Group, world-renowned geographical name experts, and domestic geographers, to discuss the legality of marking East Sea along with the development of such logic.
World Peace Forum President Kim Jin-hyun said in his keynote lecture on October 27, Just 20 years ago, the international society commonly used “East Sea” as well as “Sea of Japan,” and the rate of marking both names in maps was just 0.2-0.3% in the early 1990s, but it has now reached a remarkable , allowing the name “East Sea” to spread widely in the international society. The peace of East Sea and Mt. Baekdu is the peace of justice.
