Gyeongsangbuk-do to Globalize Saemaul ong in Central Asia The Province ed a Saemaul ong Center in Kyrgyzstan
Gyeongsangbuk-do province ed a Saemaul training center for Central Asians in Kyrgyzstan on Sep. 27.
The Center will offer education and training programs to high-ranking public officials, officials in local governments, as well as representatives and residents of model villages.
The initiative is aimed at contributing to the development of rural areas in Kyrgyzstan by reing people’s mindsets and training them to become Saemaul leaders.
The ing was scheduled at the request of the Kyrgyzstan Saemaul Training Center (SMU Center) last January in which they asked for exchanges and cooperation on issues related to Saemaul ong.
It is the fourth research center to be established after the Trisakti-Saemaul ong Center in Gadjah Mada University that ed in Indonesia in September, the Senegal Saemaul ong Center in Gaston Berger University that ed in Senegal in December in the same year, and the Vietnam Saemaul ong Center that ed in the National Ho Chi Minh University last August.
The ing of the Kyrgyzstan Center is significant because it is the foothold for the localization of the Saemaul ong and the Saemaul globalization effort led by Gyeongsangbuk-do province, which spread to Southeast Asia and Africa before finally advancing to Central Asia.
The Province plans to provide different types of support that are required in training local instructors, including sharing of necessary textbooks and materials, dispatch of lecturers (Saemaul experts), and training by invitation.
The ing of the Center in Kyrgyzstan, which is utilizing Saemaul ong as its core development model, is believed to help in advancing the country and in playing the role of a foothold for human exchanges and cultural cooperation between South Korea and Kyrgyzstan.
The Kyrgyzstan government and the private sector are both highly interested in Saemaul ong.
The Kyrgyzstan government has installed the Kyrgyzstan Saemaul Committee, chaired by the Minister of Cabinet, Nurkhanbek Momunaliev, er the Prime Minister’s Office along with other private organizations.
Presently, a total of 50 villages that are supported by the two institutions, including the Manas Saemaul village, which is implementing the movement without outside support, were designated as model villages, and they are currently implementing a tap water supply project, road maintenance and pavement works, and purchase of autonomous garbage collection vehicles. Also, the Korea-Kyrgyzstan Friendship Park was built in the Manas village to expand and represent the movement.
Lee Ji Ha, president of the Saemaul Globalization Foation said, the “foation will provide unwavering support for the development of the Saemaul ong model village that is tailored to the reality in Kyrgyzstan by strengthening the competence of its residents through continuous education.”
A total of 100 guests, including Jumagul Egenvera, governor of Kyrgyzstan, and Sanzar Ikramov, deputy director general of Kyrgyzstan, participated in the ing ceremony.
