Gyeongdangbuk-do and Thai Nguyen in Vietnam Boost Their Exchange Cooperation
Marking the 10th anniversary of its exchange cooperation with its Vietnamese sister region of Thai Nguyen, Gyeongsangbuk-do vowed to further boost such ties. The province invited the Vietnamese delegation to the 7th World Water Forum (April 12-15), with the aim of commercializing water and of working out cooperative measures in erse areas, including the Saemaeul Movement, the economy, health, medicine, and cultural tourism. The nine-member Thai Nguyen delegation included Vice Chairman ĐẶNG VIẾT THUẦN, a long-time official in the investment plan area, and officials responsible for international exchange, construction, water resources, environment, and cultural heritages. On April 12-13, the delegation participated in the ing ceremony of the World Water Forum and in the local government course. They also visited Gyeongju Culture Expo, where they were briefed with regard to the hosting of the 2015 Silk Road Culture Festival. On April 14, the delegation made a courtesy call to Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee In-sun and visited Gangdong Hospital in Gumi. On April 15, they visited the new provincial government building before leaving South Korea. Gyeongsangbuk-do has dispatched five people to Tho Village in Dinh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, where they are now conducting volunteer work, and this year, together with Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do will invite the Saemaeul training delegation of Dinh Hoa to visit South Korea. In November, Gyeongsanguk-do Police Agency and Thai Nguyen Security Office signed an MOU on exchanges between them, and last December, Cheongdo-gun and Dinh Hoa signed an MOU on exchange cooperation. Since recently, the Hallyu Korean pop culture has become trendy and popular in Vietnam, leading the South Korean manufacturing businesses, including Samsung, LG, other large companies, and small and medium-sized firms, to continuously invest in Vietnam. On March 28, South Korea and Vietnam signed a tentative FTA, boosting their cooperation to the highest level since the commencement of their diplomatic ties in various areas, including the economy, culture, resource development, and labor cooperation. Amidst these mutual cooperation efforts, Gyeongsangbuk-dos sister region Thai Nguyen saw Samsung Electronics invest KRW5 billion therein, allowing it to emerge as the largest production hub of Samsung mobile phones. Through last years session for the promotion of medical tourism, Gumi Gangdong Hospital is pushing ahead with the business of attracting patients from Thai Nguyen. Gyeongsangbuk-dos Vietnamese partner sees a need to establish international hospitals for foreign workers through foreign investment, and is trying to attract South Koreas hospitals thereto.
