Overseas South Korean Schools Teachers Have First-Hand Experience of Dokdo
“We will properly teach our students the truth — that Dokdo is part of the territory of South Korea.”
On July 20, 2015, at Hotel Inter-Burgo EXCO, Gyeongsangbuk-do and Dokdo Foation held the launching ceremony for Dokdo Expedition. To promote Dokdo globally, the ceremony aimed to invite some 31 teachers of South Korean schools in three countries — Japan, China, and Singapore — to visit and explore Dokdo for 2 nights and 3 days, from November 21 to 23, to enable them to establish an education program about Dokdo in their respective local schools. Prior to the event, the participants listened to a special lecture on the truth about Dokdo by Yeungnam University Dokdo Institutes Professor Song Hwi-young, and viewed a Dokdo PR film showing the resolve to defend Dokdo as part of the South Korean territory. A participant, teacher Lee Geun-hyeok from Korean International School in Singapore, said, This program awakened me to the importance of Dokdo, and motivated me to endeavor to defend Dokdo. A total of 109 teachers from overseas South Korean schools have participated in the Doko visit event, which marks its 5th anniversary this year, with the aim of motivating such teachers to in their students of the fact that Dokdo is part of the territory of South Korea. Lee Sang-wook, the Head of the Eastern coast Development ision, said, The Dokdo expedition program will effectively promote Dokdo globally not just as an island but as South Koreas proud and beautiful island. We will further boost the global publicity of Dokdo to defend our claim to it and to bolster our sovereignty therein.
