Gyeongsangbuk-do’s Ulleung-gun Dokdo Museum has ed Dokdo Museum Dallas Exhibition Center on the 25th at Dallas Korean Cultural Center in celebration of Dokdo Day. It will promote Dokdo to the Korean-Americans in Dallas and to the other visiting American citizens. Dokdo Museum held a special exhibition at H-Mart in Carrollton, Texas last year, and donated the entire collection to Dallas Korean Chamber of Commerce to encourage their spontaneous support for Dokdo. The Dallas Korean Chamber of Commerce used the collection for the Dokdo booth at the Korean-American Festival in 2016, and to promote other activities with the aim of introducing Dokdo. They made multifaceted efforts with the Dallas Korean-American Society and other social organizations to secure a space where they could permanently exhibit the collection. It was not easy, however, due to the rental costs and management issues. Then Ulleung-gun and Grand Prairie entered into a sister agreement last April to boost various cultural exchanges between Ulleung-gun and the Dallas Korean-American Society and to encourage the construction of Dokdo Exhibition Center. Grand Prairie in Texas spans the Dallas, Ellis, and Tarrant counties. Dallas Korean Chamber of Commerce has discussed with Dallas Korean-American Society and Dallas Korean Cultural Center’s Board of Directors and decided to use Room 107 of Korean Cultural Center as Dokdo Exhibition Center. Officials of Ulleung-gun Dokdo Museum recently visited Dallas Korean Cultural Center to help with the preparation process. Ulleung-gun Dokdo Museum and Dallas Korean Cultural Center’s Board of Directors will sign an MOU for cooperation in the management and operation of the exhibition center. Dallas Exhibition Center has a symbolic meaning: it is the first exhibition center that Ulleung-gun jointly ed with a social organization abroad.
