Dokdo, the Island of Culture,’ Talks to Heaven through Dance -A dance perance, ‘Dokdo, the Land of Korea – Rite for Heavenly Talk’ was held recently-
To celebrate the month of Dokdo in October, various cultural and art events were held in earnest to introduce Dokdo of the Republic of Korea to the world.
On Oct. 7, dancers, composed of active key figures in traditional Korean dance and members of the Korean Dance Association, unveiled a perance titled, ‘Dokdo, Island of Culture ing with Dance’.
In the perances watched by tourists visiting the island, the dancers headlined several shows, including ‘Dokdo, the Land of Korea – Rite for Heavenly Talk’ and ‘Flower in the Water”.
They were conceived to solidify the country’s firm will to protect its territory by notifying heaven that the island is the land of the Republic with the Rite, and to show the world that the island is the ‘land of peace,’ blooming with culture and arts with ‘Flower in the Water’.
In the perances, dancers impersonated natural elements, such as rocks and stones, by holding many jars, thereby symbolizing that the island created by nature has been imbued with the soul and the spirit of our ancestors for many years. The dancers also conveyed the message that the island will bloom forever as the flower of culture in the territory of the Republic by planting flowers in a jar while dancing.
Lee Gang Chang, the director-general on Dokdo policy, said that ‘the perances are designed to convey enthusiasm for the island of the Korean people by sublimating the beauty and the values of the island into artistic works. The province will keep promoting Dokdo as the island of peace by hosting erse cultural and art events in the future.
