1. A practical plan is created for the common prosperity of East sea rim region.
The representative of 9 cities from Korea, China and Japan, who participated in the 15th conference of major cities in east sea rim region, signed on memorandum. The memorandum describes that the representatives will push forward for building the international logistics network that has been raised as the common task.
The representatives promised to focus on the logistics exchanges between member cities in the declaration including the opening international regular route and air route for constructing compound transport network of logistics and energy, designating free trade zone for fostering international corporation and organizing a network
They also agreed to organize an institute and consortium in each city of East sea rim region and per a joint research project for the development.
The representatives decided the practical planning for the co-prosperity including ing a permanent secretariat, the charter, the official emblem, website and the standard of expense.
The 16th conference of major cities of east rim region is going to be held in Yanji, China 2010.
2. The export logistics of Kia motors to Russia will be the first shipping in Yeongilman port.
Mayor of Pohang, Park, Seung-ho agreed that KIA Motor would export through Yeongilman after meeting with vice-president Lee, Hyung-geun at the headquarter of KIA in Seoul on the 17th. They also decided to use Yeongilman port for the export logistics to Southeast Asia if a route was developed for the Southeast Asian area in Yeongilman port during September to October.
The total amount of the export logistics to Southeast Asia and Russia from KIA Mortor is 40,000 TEU. Kia Motor is going to sign the MOU on the use of Yeongilman port
Meanwhile, KIA Motors is shipping vehicle parts, that is produced at Hwa-sung factory in Kyunggi-do, to Vladivostok, Russia and sell the vehicle parts after assembling in Russia.
3. Pohang increases the support to protect the temporary livelihood in the poor households from this month.
Applicants are single parent family and a family with an incapable person in labor such as severly disabled, the elderly, and a patient with incurable disease. Also, the support will be provided to family with labor capable person that is having a difficulty to make a living.
The support is of the minimum livelihood support per household that will be 200,000 won on monthly average. The support, will be operating by the end of this year and deposited into the bank account on the 15th of September after an investigation on monthly asset and financial property.
The application should be done in person at the local government office, such as Ub, Myun and Dong office. If necessary, officials with the authority to apply are also able to apply for applicants.
4. The 157th extraordinary session of Pohang City council will be held for 8days from 21st to 28th.
Pohang city council is going to deliberate and decide 8 proposals from each committee including ’the 2nd further revised supplementary budget in 2009’ ’installing and operating a memorial hall of Saemaeul movement in Pohang’. In addition, the condition of creating job project, result of design service of restoration project on Hyungsan ecological river and creating city forest at the land, abolished railway, will be deliberated and decided.
The city council is expected to have an energetic assembly activities such as discussing the 2nd supplementary budget bill in 2009, reviewing the effectiveness of early execution budget and difficulties of small and medium corporation in Heunghae.
5. The 3rd Korean Chinese Culture Exchange Conference was held in Pohang.
The representatives from two countries were Ha, Young-ae, president of Korean and Chinese women’s exchange association, Wong Wan, the wife of the Chinese ambassador to Korea and other female representatives from two countries. There were presentations by 12 representatives about female related issues such as ’the labor and employment of modern Chinese women’ ’development of two countries through social and cultural exchange’ and so on. They also toured ’Culture and art exchanges between Korean and Chinese women festival’, POSCO and Jukdo Seafood Market.
The conference was held in Pohang to celebrate the 60th anniversary, the opening of Yeongilman port and the 15th anniversary of Korean Chinese women’s exchange association. It would be a great opportunity to raise the status of Pohang in China since it was the first time to have in a region.
6. A website, called ’Yeongilman’s Friend’ was opened with a variety of ination about Pohang.
The website, for people in Korea and abroad who are related to Pohang, is expected to play a major role to develop Pohang by attracting many people who understand Pohang better and exchange various ination by building a network on the cyber space.
