Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Government has established a detailed action plan of the Province in accordance with the COVID-19 national vaccination plan, and vaccinations will begin in earnest from March.
The COVID-19 vaccination is planned to be administered to 2.27 million people aged 18 and older in the Province from March to November, of which 654.3 thousand people are eligible for the priority vaccination by the second quarter.
Above all, from March, the first vaccination will begin for residents and workers under the age of 65 in elderly nursing hospitals, elderly nursing facilities, and mental care and rehabilitation facilities, and 72.6 thousand people including COVID-19 treatment hospital workers and COVID-19 1st responders who are working at high risk medical institutions will be inoculated. ※ AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine ？ In consideration of the recommendation of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the deliberation result of the Korea Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the vaccination will be given first to those under the age of 65, and for those whose age is 65 or older it will be decided whether to vaccinate them according to the results of additional clinical testing on efficacy information.
The vaccination will be implemented as follows: nursing hospitals will be inoculated autonomously in the hospital; nursing facilities for the elderly, and mental care and mental rehabilitation facilities will be served by the visiting team of the public health centers, contracted medical institutions for each facility or contracted visiting doctors; workers in COVID-19 treatment hospitals will be inoculated at the vaccination center or the related hospitals will vaccinate them autonomously; and, COVID-19 responders will be administered by the public health centers.
From May to June, the Provincial Government will inoculate about 581.7 thousand people, including the elderly, people with disabilities, the residents and workers in homeless facilities, people of 65 years old or older, and health care workers at medical institutions. In the third quarter, vaccinations are planned to be provided for adults with chronic diseases, essential personnel such as firefighters, police, workers in education and childcare facilities, and people of 18 to 64 years old. In the fourth quarter, vaccinations will be sequentially administered for a total of 1.62 million people, including the people to be vaccinated for the second time, those who have not been vaccinated et al.
In order to make citizens receive safe vaccination at a place close to them, the Provincial Government of Gyeongsangbuk-do will preferentially install and operate one vaccination center in the gymnasium located at Nam-gu, Pohang in March and then operate 23 vaccination centers in the same number of cities and counties after June.
To this end, from February to March, the Provincial Government plans to inspect in advance the 24 sites proposed for installation for such facilities as self-power generation, heating and cooling and ventilation as well as connection with nearby emergency medical institutions, and then check whether those sites are appropriate or not before designating them.
The Government will arrange medical manpower, administrative personnel, firefighting · police personnel to operate the vaccination center. In case that the medical manpower is insufficient, the Government will consult with the the Medical Association and the Nurses Association of Gyeongsangbuk-do for reinforcement.
In addition, for increasing the accessibility to the vaccination center and providing the traffic convenience, the Government plans to work on countermeasures including, but not limited to, operation of shuttle bus, addition of the vaccination centers to the intra-city bus service route.
The Government will designate more than one thousand medical institutions as the consigned medical institutions to innoculate the recipients.
The Government plans to select mainly the consigned medical institutions which satisfy the designation criteria and have completed the COVID-19 vaccination training among the medical institutions which participated in the national vaccination such as the existing influenza and strictly supervise the selected intitutions through site visits.
In addition, for the residents and workers of facilities such as nursing homes for the elderly, mental care facilities, and the residential facilities for people with disabilities, who have difficulty in visiting the vaccination center and the consigned medical institution, the vaccination team of the public health center will visit and vaccinate them.
Kang Seong-jo, the head of the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Division, said, “We will be committed to securing vaccines, managing recipients of vaccination, setting up the vaccinaiton center and designating the consigned medical institutions in order to make the vaccination starting from March proceed without a hitch.” and made a request for compliance with the regulation for prevention of epidemics, such as social distancing and personal hygiene management, until the herd immunity is created.
