The Dokdo Month October. Gyeongsangbuk-do Province Takes the Lead in Defending Dokdo !

Gyeongbuk-do Province and Dokdo Foundation (Chairman
Cheol-Woo Lee) are presenting various programs and events to greet the Dokdo Month October. Considering the COVID-19 status, mass gathering events are minimized with a focus on conducting solid events.
To take a look at the main programs,
on October 25 (Mon), Gyeongsangbuk-do Province
Governor Cheol-lwoo Lee as well as provincial social organizations and veterans association directors will visit Dokdo. They will promote a resolution to defend Dokdo and honor patriotic will in commemoration of the 121st anniversary of enacting the Korean Empire’s Imperial Law No. 41*.

A symposium and an antique map exhibition are hosted to strengthen the effective control over Dokdo. A symposium with the theme of「San Francisco Peace Treaty and Dokdo Dominium」will be held in Yeungnam University on October 22 and the antique Dokdo map exhibition「Dokdo Drawn as Joseon’s Territory」will open in the National Assembly Members’ Office Building at the end of October.
In addition, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province will also take the lead in industrializing and habituating products made with the subject matter of Dokdo. After receiving work for the Dokdo Design Contest for the two days from October 19 (Tue) to 20 (Wed), excellent works will be selected and exhibited in Andong Culture ＆ Arts Center and other places from
October 28 to 31. Moreover,「The 3rd Dokdo Product Business Fair」that showcases and sells Dokdo products, such as studying materials and stationery, both on and offline will be carried out in the whole area of Andong Mask Dance Park from October 26 (Tue) to 28 (Thu).
The Dokdo Peace Grand Prize will be awarded to the men of national merit who took the initiative in defending Dokdo. Facing its 9th ceremony, the Dokdo Peace Grand Prize is an award bestowed to an individual or a group with outstanding accomplishments in Dokdo-related peace, environmental, cultural sectors, and so forth. Applications for candidates will be received by the coming November 5, and after undergoing the screening procedure, the award will be given in December.
Promotion events utilizing Youtube, Facebook, and other online SNS will proceed as well. The Dokdo introduction video of “Dokdorang Press Corps” will be uploaded and a nationwide participating-type event will be held to continue the loving image of beautiful and peaceful Dokdo.
While orchestrating such events, Gyeongbuk-do Province and Dokdo Foundation will adhere to the policy of coping appropriately to situations for each step including rigorously observing COVID-19 prevention guidelines and maintaining social distancing.
Gyeongsangbuk-do Province Marine Fisheries Service’s Chief Youngseok Lee revealed, “In light of COVID-19 circumstances, we will only administer events around the absolutely essential ones and ensure the substantiality of consolidating the territorial sovereignty of Dokdo,” and pledged, “We will do our best to reinforce effective control over Dokdo in celebrating this year’s 121st anniversary since the enactment of the Korean Empire’s Imperial Law.
