- Where are the coastal public campgrounds operated by the cities and counties of Gyeongbuk? -
Autumn is officially here. After the unusually hot midsummer sunlight and tiresome autumn rainy season have passed, now the cool winter is gently blowing softly as if it strokes my hair. How about leaving for the campground on the East Coast if you want to enjoy this leisurely and brilliant autumn to the fullest a bit more?
The East Coast of Gyeongsangbuk-do, characterized by the horizon seeming to continue endlessly as the color of blue wave is as same as that of sky and the vast white sand beach is comparatively COVID19-free area. It is a place where you can improve your self-esteem in return for a little effort caused by the camping and calm yourself while looking at the open ocean. Also, at this place, the family members or lovers can keep the mutual warm heart as a memory while making the sound of wave their friend with the stars shining in the night sky.
In this paper, we would like to introduce some public campgrounds located at the coast operated by the cities and counties of Gyeongsangbuk-do. Let’s look around ‘Oryu Campground’ of Gyeongju, ‘Goraebul Public Campground’of Yeongdeok, and ‘Yeomjeon Beach Campground’ of Uljin.
■ Oryu Campground of Gyeongju
Oryu Campground is located at the pine grove just in front of Oryu Goara Beach, Gampo-eup, Gyeongju-si. There are 8 campsites and 28 caravans. As there are many caravans, you can go there without any camping equipment. Feeling the pine scent with every fiber of your body as well as the sea breeze blowing into the pine grove, you can make congenial memories while you pick up pinecones. In addition, drive about for 4 minutes, and then you will arrive at Songdaemal Lighthouse which has been changed into an advanced digital exhibition hall (to be operated in November), making you enjoy various experiences.
■ Goraebul Public Campground of Yeongdeok
Goraebul Public Campground is arranged in the pine forest of 175,000m2 (about 53 thousand pyeongs) adjacent to Goraebul Beach of which the scene takes your breath away with the white sand beach of 4 kilometers. The campsite consists of 110 general camping sites built with wooden deck, 13 auto camping sites, and 25 caravans. As convenience facilities, you can enjoy a observatory architecture where you can see the East Sea at a glance, a coastal walk, a childrens playground, and a bicycle rental shop, thereby being very popular with family visitors. At the nearby Byeonggok seawall, there is an observatory used as a place for spacing out and that is emerging as a hot spot these days.
■ Yeomjeon Beach Campground of Uljin
Yeomjeon Beach Campground of Uljin, opened in the last July, is a clean and comfortable campground. Based on the inner central road parallel to the sea, the seaside of the campground is the area which is for auto camping with a sea view and will be equipped with 4 camping trailers. On the opposite side, there are deck sites where you can enjoy camping among the pine trees. All sites are spacious and the distance between sites is reasonable, so you can enjoy private camping. Further, there is a cable car, an aquarium, and an ecological park within 600 meters southwest of the campground entrance, leaving you no room for boredom. The night view of the Sweet Fish Bridge to the northwest is a bonus.
Mr. Lee Yeong-seok, the Director of the Office of Oceans and Fisheries, Gyeongsangbuk-do, said, “I hope the visitors to heal their body and mind worn of the daily life and recover the vitality and composure.” He also added, “Gyeongsangbouk-do plans to continuously create various marine leisure spaces.
On the other hand, Najeong Beach, located in Gampo-eup, Gyeongju-si, and known as one of the most popular places for auto camping in Korea, is currently constructing an auto campground by remodeling the parking lot and expanding various convenience facilities. Pohang-si also is under construction of an auto campground along the waterfront of Hyeongsan-gang River. Both of the places busy with plans to open the campground next year. Also, Ulleung National Leisure Campground, which is located along the Ulleungdos circumferential road, is a must-see attraction. However, it’s a pity that the site is being operated as a temporary living facility of COVID19 until the end of December this year.
