Gyeongsangbuk-do invites to a Red & White Christmas Party in the Heart of Winter!
- The Bonghwa Winter Buncheon Santa Village opens on December 17 -

With winter approaching, Bonghwa-gun is hosting the Winter Buncheon Santa Village event.

The 2022-2023 Buncheon Santa Village, managed by Gyeongsangbuk-do in collaboration with Bonghwa-gun, Korail, and the Bonghwa Festival & Tourism Foundation, will welcome visitors from December 17, 2022, to February 12, 2023 (58 days), at the Buncheon Santa Village in Socheon-myeon, Bonghwa-gun.

This years Buncheon Santa Village, which gets under way for the first time in three years due to the ongoing effects of COVID-19, has a wide variety of attractions to see, food to eat, and activities to enjoy, all inspired by this year’s theme Red & White Christmas Party in the Heart of Winter, for travelers visiting the Santa Village.

The opening ceremony on December 17 will feature performances by the MBC Childrens Choir, musical actor Nam Kyeong-ju, singers GilguBonggu and Lara Benito, as well as a unique street play and a plaster mime performance with a Santa concept.

December 24, Christmas Eve, has a number of different events and performances prepared as well. The Village will give a Christmas Carol Festa performance so that tourists visiting the Santa Village can enjoy the festivities of Christmas, as well as a surprise event to meet Buncheon Santa Village’s mascots and a parade handing out gifts to visitors.

Santas Cooking Class inside the Tree Observatory, pop-up playground with various immersive activities for children, a special Christmas Experience Exhibition, and food truck zone to cater to tourists will also be available at the Santa Village to make sure everyone has a fun Christmas festival.

Other attractions include the Santa Sleigh program that gives visitors a chance to take a ride on Santa’s sleigh and forget about the cold for a minute, and a 24-hour self-studio where people can immediately print their photos taken at Santa Villages photo zones.

Given that COVID-19 is still a health and safety concern, Bonghwa-gun plans fully comply with quarantine rules and do its best to keep the Festival safe.

The Chairperson of the Bonghwa Festival & Tourism Foundation (Governor of Bonghwa-gun) said, As this is our first Festival in three years, we have prepared a variety of heart-warming, exciting, and entertaining content to make sure everyone can experience just how magnificent winter can be at Bonghwa. He added, Everyone at the Santa Village will do our best to help Bonghwa become a leader in tourist destinations built around special themes, and emerge as an attractive tourist destination for travelers worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Bonghwa Buncheon Santa Village was inspired by the Santa Village in Rovaniemi, a renowned tourist destination in Finland. Bonghwa has welcomed visitors to the Buncheon Santa Village twice a year, once each in winter and summer, since December 2014. In 2016, it was selected as a Star of Korean Tourism and has become a leading tourist destination in Korea with numerous travelers visiting every year.
